NATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
The aim of these videos is to offer a rigorous, attractive, interesting and critical interpretation of the meaning of the Museum Treasures that belonged to different cultures, so that knowledge of their history is useful to citizens to analyze and understand current reality.
The National Archaeological Museum, the MAN, is an archaeology museum or archaeological museum specializing in archaeological remains. It is also a Spanish National Museum located in the heart of the Salamanca district, housed in the Palace of the National Library and Museums of Madrid, in a 19th-century building located at Serrano Street, 13, 28001, Madrid (Spain).
The MAN (National Archaeological Museum) houses one of the most important collections of antiquities in the world , and also offers a journey from prehistory to the 19th century.
EXCEPTIONAL PIECES
Videos were made of the most important treasures of the National Archaeological Museum (MAN), to disseminate this artistic value, such as the Treasure of Guarrazar , the most extraordinary example of Visigothic goldsmithing, or the Collection of Greek vases , considered by specialists to be one of the best in the world, as well as Dinos of Thetis and Peleus , a masterpiece for its agile and restless stroke and for the imagination of the story, among other filmed treasures.

Opening the display case of Recceswinth's Crown
For the first time in the history of the National Archaeological Museum, the display case of the Crown of Recceswinth was opened so that it could be filmed. It was a historic and unique experience, as it is the most precious jewel of the Treasure of Guarrazar and of the Archaeological Museum, being a work of Visigothic goldsmithing from the 7th century that was commissioned by King Recceswinth in gold, garnets, sapphires and pearls, in Toledo, Spain.
The filming had to be done without creating any air that could move the Crown of Recceswinth, as it was such a relevant and delicate work; a professional from the Museum was always with me while I was filming to damage the Museum's Treasure as little as possible.
The filming took place when the SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19) was still present, which is why we wear masks when we are with other people in the same room of the Museum.
The filming of each Treasure of the Museum always involves an organizational process with the workers of the MAN.
It is necessary to try to comply with certain rules in order not to damage the works, such as not using flash. In fact , one of the problems of the National Archaeological Museum is that the light is too dim for this purpose, making high-resolution filming very difficult, since light is fundamental to making quality videos, but at the same time, this darkness was used to give a certain mystery to each of the videos filmed in the Museum.
The key factors for recording Treasures in the most professional way, to avoid some of the problems mentioned above:
- To use darkness to enhance the message of the work, and to offer the viewer a past-present scenario.
- Frame the work naturally, and take advantage of the spaces that make up the final filming.
- Filming is a creative process, so we offer creative videos that connect with the Museum's audience.

Filming of other Treasures of the Museum (Mummies of Egypt)
The videos were made, and the subsequent editing of the Treasures of the National Archaeological Museum (MAN), on Mondays when the Museum remained closed to the public, having access to the inside of the display cases of some of the Treasures, for better filming without reflection in the images.
Different rooms were filmed, where the era and culture were very different, to enrich the content of the videos, and to offer the viewer varied information about what the Museum can offer, whether you view it through different media, or in person.
This artistic audiovisual work has been used for educational purposes on the Museum's website and other media to promote the Treasures of the National Archaeological Museum.
