This sculpture was made in homage to one of the maritime expeditions of the Spanish aristocrat and businessman Don Álvaro de Marichalar y Sáenz de Tejada, the Atlantik Expedition: from Rome to New York, on the 5th Centenary of Columbus' fourth and last voyage to America.

 This sculpture represents the triumph of an international competition challenge undertaken by the Atlantik maritime expedition. Renowned athletes from other countries, including European and American sailors, had attempted and failed, making it a nearly insurmountable challenge. Therefore, this sculpture symbolizes the feat of achieving a dream for high-level competitors, where experience and logistics were insufficient, but always guided by the spirit of fair play.

 The waves and cloudy sky that can be seen in the sculpture tell of hard days, where perseverance overcame the fatigue of Don Álvaro de Marichalar, and after several attempts to make this crossing like his rivals without success, he managed to achieve this challenge before the eyes of the Statue of Liberty, waving the flag of Spain on his dolphin-sized boat, christened “NUMANCIA”.

 This sculpture tells the story of the only Spanish sailor, Don Álvaro de Marichalar, who made history by crossing the Atlantic Ocean in his 2.5-meter-long boat, promoting sport and the fight against drugs, and setting an example that against all odds, and alone, one can achieve the proposed challenges, such as overcoming the 10,000 nautical miles that separate Rome from New York, culminating the Expedition that was described at the London Boat Show as one of the toughest maritime crossings in the history of navigation.

 This sculpture is made of bronze, with a patina of yellowish and greenish tones.
